Morecambe Beach. The holiday resort of Morecambe started to gain its popularity in 1870 as it built entertainment halls, a promenade and other attractions. It reached its peak in the 20's and 30's before the package holiday (predominantly southern European beaches) became popular after the second world war. Lancashire, UK, August 2000
England beat Germany, Euro 2000 soccer finals watched on large screen T, Friary and Firkin pub, Lancaster. The Centenary Congregational Church was built in 1879, formed part of Lancaster University when it first started in 1964 and now houses a fun pub. Ironically the church believed in total abstinence. During the soccer finals England were paired in the same group as their long term rivals Germany. In 1966 England beat Germany in the world cup finals in London. Ever since they have regularly been eliminated from major soccer competitions by Germany who have since proved to be a stronger side. Although England did not win any other matches in this competition, beating Germany was felt to be a major achievement. , Lancaster, UK, June 2000

Derived from a popular youth music culture in the late 70's to mid 80's, punks from all over Europe meet for a weekend to hear bands play and show off their lavish fashion. Tide and Time festival, Crook O' Lune Caton. This local beauty spot has been painted and written about by many famous artists and writers over the last few centuries. The homeless and travellers meet to drink and socialise in Dalton Square. The statue of Queen Victoria they sit up against was originally commissioned for Williamson Park but later was moved to the square by Lord Ashton in 1906. On a day of visits to homes for the elderly, Lancaster City Mayor Edna Jones talks with Marjorie Thompson at the Moor Platt Home for the Elderly, Caton. The ancient institution of Mayor making is traced back in Lancaster to 1338, though there is reference to a chief Bailiff two centuries before this.
